Ana Catarina Pereira is an Assistant Professor at the Arts and Letters Faculty of the Beira Interior University and holds a PhD in Communication Sciences, in the Cinema and Multimedia area, from the same university. Researcher at the LabCom center, she is responsible for the project "SPECULUM – Filming and looking at oneself in the mirror: the self-writing use by Portuguese-speaking documentary filmmakers", funded by the FCT. She has a degree in Communication Sciences from Lisbon Nova University and a Master’s in Human Rights from Salamanca University. She worked for several years as a journalist and collaborated with the publications Notícias Sábado and Notícias Magazine (Diário de Notícias), i newspaper, magazines Focus, Up, Saber Viver and Happy Woman. She is the author of the books A Mulher-Cineasta: Da arte pela arte a uma estética da diferenciação and Estudo do Tecido Operário Têxtil da Cova da Beira. She co-organized the works of the Cinema and Other Arts (LabCom) collection and the books Filmes (Ir)refletidos, UBICinema 2007/2017, Geração Invisível: Os novos cineastas portugueses, and Colectânea de Poesia – Poetas do Fundão, among others, publishing regularly in national and international scientific journals. She was co-founder and director of the electronic magazine Magnética Magazine (2008/10); director of the course in Cultural Sciences, at UBI (2017/19), coordinator of the GT of Film Studies at Sopcom (2017/22) and representative of the FAL at the Commission for Equality (2019/22). She has presented conferences, workshops and masterclasses in Brazil, Spain, England, and Sweden, and is a curator and jury of several film festivals. Her research interests focus on feminist studies, film studies, pedagogy in the arts and cinema in Portuguese.
