Mission

"SPECULUM – Filming and looking at oneself in the mirror: the self-writing use by Portuguese-speaking documentary filmmakers" has as its primary mission the development of an in-depth reflection around the autobiographical documentary filmmaking by women in Portugal and Brazil. Likewise, it intends to stimulate the creation of films of the same genre by other women, as well as the organisation of scientific and social events, the publication of results, and the exchange between recognised autobiographical documentarists and women interested in understanding the topic more deeply. To this end, it will attempt to fulfil objectives that include:

1. The survey and analysis of autobiographical documentaries made by women in Portugal and Brazil since the end of the 20 th century.

2. The production of workshops dynamized by Lusophone filmmakers.

3. The production of podcasts in which themes related to the making of autobiographical documentaries and to the experience of women documentarists with autobiographical works are discussed.

4. The promotion of an international conference on autobiographical documentary filmmaking and the publication of a book summarizing the study.
