Ana Isabel Soares is an Assistant Professor with a degree in Modern Languages and Literature (Portuguese/English) from the Lisbon School of Arts and Humanities (FLUL; 1993) and a PhD in Theory of Literature from the same School (2003), where, in 2009, she completed post-doctoral research in Portuguese cinema and poetry. She has taught at Algarve University (UAlg) since 1996, and at for short periods in other Portuguese and foreign universities. Currently the head of the Department of Arts and Humanities at UAlg, she was a founding member of the Association of Moving Image Researchers, of which she was the first President (2010-2014). Her research interests lie in the areas of Theory of Literature, multi-artistic works (e.g., by David Wojnarowicz), film (Manoel de Oliveira, António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro, Edgar Pêra, or Margarida Gil) and literary works (namely 21 st century Portuguese poetry). The essays resulting from her reflections are published in Portuguese and Brazilian journals, as well as in book form. Her translations – of poetry or literary and film theory – have appeared in Portugal and Brazil. She is the author of pedagogical dossiers for the National Film Plan. She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Research Center in Arts and Communication (UAlg). She writes regularly for the online magazines Algarve Informativo, Almanaque, and Umbigo Magazine.
